Dr. Kristen Philpott
Dr. Philpott was raised in Phoenix, Arizona where she was introduced to horses at a young age. Since she was ten years old, she has competed in barrel racing, performed with a drill team, worked on the local racetrack as a groom, and has spent numerous hours retraining her own retired racehorse to barrel race.
Her passion for horses continued through college, and Dr. Philpott received her undergraduate degree in animal science with an emphasis on the Race Track Industry Program at the University of Arizona. She spent her summers working with the California Horse Racing Board, and spent numerous hours working with race track veterinarians in preparation for veterinary school.
Dr. Philpott received her veterinary degree from U.C. Davis with an emphasis in equine medicine. She spent her externship weeks at various race tracks learning the ins and outs of sports medicine, and spent numerous weeks during her clinical year with the Equine Integrative Sports Medicine service, Large animal ultrasound and radiology services, and the Equine Lameness and Surgery service fine tuning her lameness diagnostics and sports medicine skills. During her time at Davis, Dr. Philpott was also involved in multiple research projects that focused on the equine athlete and orthopedic problems.
Being an active equestrian herself, Dr. Philpott is conscientious of what horse owners want from their athletes, and how important it is to catch problems early on to keep everyone competing at their best level! She would love to get the chance to meet you and your horses, and help set up a plan to keep them winning blue ribbons!
Dr. Philpott’s professional interests include sports medicine, diagnostic ultrasound, acupuncture and chiropractic work. Outside of work, she enjoys riding her Thoroughbred, playing with her Belgian Tervuren, planning her upcoming wedding, and whipping up something new in the kitchen.
